Gatekeeper 3

Will be resumed as soon as possible.

The more observant amongst you will have noticed that I tend to write about three blog posts a month. Also, that recently, they are appearing much later. The truth is that I have been battling with bugs (and not the six-legged variety). Last week I decided to make use of the massive amount of cloud storage that came with our new broadband package, only to find that Lightroom had changed all the dates on my scanned film. The jpg images created to upload, all bore the date the negatives and slides were scanned and not the dates I had carefully entered. Removing the metadata wrangler I use fixed that problem, but introduced two more, because I could no longer strip labels and keywords.

My web site itself appeared to have a bug and according to the nice gentleman from iThemes, it looked as if it was “haunted”. I had given him access to solve a problem and he updated the plugins, only to see them revert minutes later. I had seen the same thing myself. The problem wasn’t with iThemes in the end, as one of the other plugins had a bug that stopped ALL the plugins from talking to WordPress.

Finally, the lovely mat and frame action I have been using for the past ten years to create a slideshow for my desktop, stopped working. It’s far too complicated for me to fix and so I spent several hours yesterday searching Adobe Exchange marketplace for a replacement. I finally found one almost identical and bought it… to find that it doesn’t appear in the actions panel. I contacted the seller, to receive a reply today explaining that there is a problem with the latest version of Photoshop and the action doesn’t work. I need to roll back one version and I daresay that I will find my old action works perfectly there too.

The image above was taken almost exactly one year ago today and is a gentle reminder that perhaps I am better behind a camera than in front of a computer…

  1. A good read even though I haven’t got a clue what you are talking about 🙂 Just get on with taking photos and stop mucking about 🙂 🙂 🙂 It’s nearly Autumn and although not my favourite time of year, I intend to go out and find some nice colours to tog. If you fancy a meet up, give me a call or whatever and we can arrange something.

    1. I’ve tried getting on with taking photos, but the last three trips have ended in my back seizing up. I was hoping a few days off might let things settle down. I’m probably going out tomorrow though because the bug season isn’t going to last much longer. I will take you up on the offer at some point. I’m going to Northumberland next month, so maybe after that 🙂

I do not like computers and friends! I am sorry for your bad experience but I am confident you will fix everything asap.
That butterfly shot is amazing ❤️
Curious and excited to see your photos again.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you, Sid. I’m getting there gradually. In the meantime, I get out with my camera when the weather is good. I met some beautiful damselflies the other day 🙂
