I always intended to write another blog post about my trips to Stodmarsh nature reserve last year. From memory, I have always needed exactly three visits each year and things worked out as expected. The first visit, the kingfisher didn’t land anywhere near the hide. Conditions on the second visit weren’t ideal. The third trip was almost perfect, with lots of sun and a very co-operative female, who showed well from my arrival at about midday, until I left around three hours later.
I kept many images from that visit and they should have been enough, but something made me wonder about trying something completely different. I was lucky with the sun on the previous visit and yet I’ve always preferred the very different colours kingfishers have in cloudy conditions. So I made yet another 3 hour round trip on the gloomiest day for ages. It was very dull and cloudy all day and there was no light to work with at all. In fact, every image shared here was taken with the ISO at a whopping 6400!

This last image was taken as a marsh harrier flew over the lake.
