I hadn’t been to my nearest wildlife reserve in quite a long time. When I tried to visit last year, I found that parking is no longer free. Not only that, but you cannot pay by cash. I always keep a box of change in my car for parking, but it is now almost redundant. I don’t use a smart phone and so the apps are useless. However, knowing the herons were in the process of nesting, I relented, used the parking web site on my PC and booked in advance. I must admit that it was relatively quick and easy, but I have seen several complaints from people who paid, but who were fined regardless, even though they provided proof. I may not be visiting too often in the future.
Here is a selection of chicks with and without adults and an adult pair building a nest.
