After staying on the beach until after sunset for my photograph of Prospect Cottage, I had about twenty minutes to get to my next location. Shingle isn’t easy to walk on at the best of times and even less so carrying a heavy rucksack and tripod. Thankfully, I had turned my car around when I arrived, so after buckling all my gear up on the passenger seat, I made my way back to Lydd. Progress was painfully slow, as the speed limit near the beach is just 20mph and once I had turned on to the final section, potholes made the going difficult. Parking up where my car wouldn’t cause an obstruction, I had to walk back up the lane and set up in the exact spot for the Sturgeon moon to rise above the power station.
I was grateful they had turned the lights on during my drive, as it made the scene more interesting. There was only time for a quick set of test shots and when I glanced up again, the moon was already starting to appear. It is actually a marginal supermoon, making it slightly brighter than a standard full moon. The only two supermoons next year will both occur in August.
