26th March (Part 3)

Marsh Harrier in Flight 10

You win some. You lose some. Having had such an incredible day at the end of last month, I’m back in the doldrums again. It seems incredible, but I’ve just returned from one of my favourite local bug spots for the third time in five days and each time I have had to come back home because there is nowhere to park. It’s normally such a quiet place, but someone recently said on a Facebook post that it was now a good site for green hairstreak butterflies. People are driving in from the other side of the county and because it takes up to four hours to do the zoo every morning, I can never get out early enough.

I did consider parking about a mile up the lane and waiting an hour or so in case a space became available, but I still didn’t like the idea of competing with a crowd. Everybody seems to use long lenses to photograph bugs these days, but I’m one of the few who still uses macro. That means I have to get very close to the bugs and then I’m in the way. I will add the location to my “do not visit” list, at least for the time being. I may return in a couple of months to look for the wonderful flower crab spiders.

So… these are the final images from an incredible day at Elmley nature reserve.
