As if it hadn’t been cold enough recently, I spent yesterday afternoon sitting in my car with the windows open. It was a balmy 4 degrees fahrenheit, but with a strong wind blowing across the reserve, it felt even colder.
The outing left me feeling tired and so I made plans today to sit in the warm in front of the PC and catch up with blog posts and editing images. Then, I realised that it is a new moon tonight and instead, I opened up PhotoPills to plan star trails at a location a good 90-minute drive from home. Star trails require stacking multiple images and so I will use the intervalometer and let the camera do its thing. Tonight, I’m planning on shooting 150 x 30-second exposures, so it’s going to be tough.
Here are a few images of a friendly female kestrel taken at the same reserve I was at yesterday. I was there on Christmas Eve and again on Boxing Day and these were shot just before a beautiful sunset. The kestrel looks warmer than I am going to feel tonight…

22 Jan 2023It’s cold outside, enough to stay at home, cozy and warm, but your adventure in the cold two days ago produced fantastic, stunning photos <3
Have a great Sunday!

22 Jan 2023Thank you Sid. It was a very cold night last night. I drove for 3.5 hours and then we stood outside in the frost for another 2.5 hours. I’m happy with the photograph, but now it’s time to warm up 🙂
