
Seeing as it’s been such a terrible year for damselflies and demoiselles, I thought I would post all the photographs that I’ve taken. It makes a sad gallery and they were all shot on 30th May in our local country park. What I thought was going to be the beginning of another fun bug year, turned into something quite different.
Featured at the top is my personal favourite. It isn’t often that you can get close to a beautiful demoiselle with a macro lens, but this stunning female posed perfectly.
Below is a male banded demoiselle.

Next are two blue-tailed damselflies of the form rufescens. These coloured forms are exclusively immature females.


Finally… another coloured form of blue-tailed damselfly. This time violacea.
