Sonea is a chocolate smoke Devon Rex and is the third cat I have had of this breed. I was fascinated by tales of their strong personalities and being “naughty but nice”. I had to travel to a breeder in London for my first and that was over 33 years ago. Sadly, we lost Gismo at the age of 15, but I couldn’t live without a little curly cat in my life and so I found another breeder, more local, this time.
Gremlin came into our lives back in 2006, but we lost him suddenly just eleven years later. I was heartbroken, but started tentatively looking for another breeder a short while later. There were none close to home, but Sonea was in Norfolk and had just been put up for homing. Her owner had initially wanted to breed from her, but later changed her mind. Most people wanted to buy a younger kitten, so little Sonea was being overlooked. I thought she would fit in with our growing family of rescue cats and that is exactly what transpired.
Oddly enough, when she was with her breeder, she loved to mother the younger kittens. As soon as I got her home though, she decided Chai (from Romania) was her real mum and they have been a bonded pair ever since. She is never far from Chai’s side and when it’s cold, they can often be found in one of the Aga beds together.
I will always be a vocal supporter of rescuing, rather than buying cats, which is why we currently have twelve from Eastern Europe. I’m glad that I gave in to temptation all those years ago though and let three curly coated hooligans into my life.

1 Jun 2025They are certainly little characters. Sonea is much quieter than our previous two boys, but she is a dear little cat and we love her very much 🙂
