September kingfisher

Stodmarsh Kingfisher 10

I seem to have missed an entire visit to Stodmarsh nature reserve. There was a memorable trip in mid-September last year, when someone placed a new perch by the lake. Sitting at the far end of the hide, this gave me an entirely new perspective, with strong sun lighting up reeds in the background. Then, there was another visit in early October. I had chosen to go on an incredibly dull day and was amply rewarded with a totally different colour palette. It did mean dialling up the ISO to 6400, but in our current unpredictable weather, I am getting used to it.

The images here were all taken on 9th September 2025, on a lovely early autumn day. The photograph featured at the top is one of my favourites, although I did feel very sorry for the fish. The rest can be seen below.
