We had a very late night out the other week. Having found an almost perfect subject to photograph with the Milky Way, we waited for perfect conditions. Fortunately, these coincided with a new moon and so we set off for the Rye Harbour nature reserve at about 10.30 on a Saturday night. Arriving just over an hour later, we parked up and made the surprisingly long walk to this old lifeboat house.
On 15th November 1928, the rescue boat launched with a crew of 17 on board. It capsized in winds of 80mph and was to be the biggest loss of life in the history of the RNLI. The building was shut afterwards and was never opened again.
I photographed this with the Milky Way behind around 1.00 on Sunday morning. It was the biggest elevation of the galactic core all year. We finally got to bed at 3.00 on Sunday morning.
