It looks as though bug season is well and truly over. When I visited a local footpath in early September, I was surprised at how dead and dry everything looked. There were a few tatty scabious flowers and a scattering of ragwort.
As I wandered along the path towards a large field, I was saddened at the absence of any bugs. When I finally reached the field, there were just two or three bees, but they clearly weren’t finding much in the flowers, as they only stayed for a second or two.
The light was bad and I nearly didn’t bother taking any photographs, but I learned a valuable lesson on that day. Once I looked at the images at home, I was struck by the detail of the pollen on the bees and the subtle colours in the out of focus flowers.
