You don’t want to hear about my web site woes. Oh, go on then! I’ve been calibrating my monitor for many years now, which I thought was a good thing. Colours look the same on my monitor, on my web site, in my forum and if I get an image printed. It should be as easy as that. The only problem is you can’t see when things have gone wrong. Like using the wrong colour profile. I will never be able to get my head around colour management. Every time I think I understand and then it’s all forgotten a few weeks later. Certainly, if you don’t know you have a problem, then you won’t look for a solution and so it was that I’ve been using the wrong colour profiles on my photographs from the beginning.
The realisation was very nearly enough to make me give up my hobby. With over 1,000 images in here (I passed that significant number last week), I couldn’t face starting over again. When I finally worked it out, my original files are fine. It seems I have actually chosen to edit in a suitable colour space, but I’ve been saving them wrong for the internet. You have therefore been seeing them not at their colourful best, but that has now been rectified. Over the past three days, I have changed every .jpg file, cleared out my galleries and uploaded them again. All the descriptions have been re-typed and broken links repaired. The good news is that I’ve saved 200 Mb in the process due to the redundant files left in my older NextGEN galleries – something the upgrade obviously didn’t clear out the first time.
So you can now enjoy the new, improved experience, I would like to present a very small, but very colourful green leaf weevil.
