I hadn’t been out to a reserve for a while, so two days ago, I planned a trip to Elmley. We got up early, did the animals in record time, (which is now just over four hours) and I packed my gear into my little car. It felt good.
However, when I started the engine to an ear-splitting screeching sound, it didn’t feel so good. My husband was still in the garden and he told me to try the handbrake. The screeching was now more bearable and so I tried driving a few yards up the old coach road. Everything seemed normal, so with fingers firmly crossed, I set off for Elmley on the Isle of Sheppey.
I had barely been gone for ten minutes when I heard a thud under the car and the battery warning light came on. Pulling over as soon as possible, I rang my garage to be told in no uncertain terms to not drive anywhere. Not even to them, as there was a real danger of damaging the engine. Thankfully, we belong to the AA and the recovery vehicle turned up about 90 minutes later. My husband picked me up and I am once again stuck at home. My car may be fixed in about a week and if I’m lucky, the engine will be fine.
