I’ve known this plant as Queen Anne’s lace ever since I was a child, but I had no idea until today that it is also called wild carrot. You learn something new every day.
This was photographed on a very quiet day at Queendown warren, when all I took was this and a lone gatekeeper butterfly. It was also the last day that I used my old Nikon D800. I had already experienced problems with the focus using my Sigma 150-600mm lens, but I was beginning to think it was struggling with my macro lens too. With a second-hand Nikon D810 as a back up, I had the option to retire the older body, but it would mean trying to cope with just one camera body again.
In fact, I was to go a full 18 months before the newer camera required a service and somehow I ended up with yet another second-hand Nikon D810. This one had just 950 shutter clicks and arrived looking like new. I call them Thing 1 and Thing 2, from the Dr Seuss book “The Cat in the Hat”. I hope to use them for many more years.
